Old buildings under repair are vulnerable: scaffolding gives access, materials are left on site, and lead and stone are worth stealing. For a Heritage Trust church in Manchester we fitted steel palisade security fencing round the building so the repair work could go ahead behind a proper boundary.
The fence was set out to clear the building and the working area, with the posts positioned to avoid graves, services and the footings of the church itself. Palisade was chosen because it can be taken down again cleanly once the repairs are finished and re-used elsewhere.
This is the same take-down-and-re-erect approach we use for fence relocation work: the panels and posts come back out without damage to the ground or the building.
